Our family loves to have wing night. This recipe is our taken on a golden sauce with plenty of heat along with some sweet. These golden wings save the pack of heat as a punch on the back of your taste buds that you can savor until the last wing is gone. Tangy mustard paired with delicious honey and packed with the zip of hot sauce to finish these grilled wings.
We set the wings on a grill at 300F for 35 minutes to ensure our wings are cooked through. After our wings are cooked we spin them in our golden sauce to complete coating. Throw them back onto the grill to tighten up the glaze and serve with finger licking golden greatness. Serve these wings with a cool creamy dipping sauce and enjoy as an appetizer or make a bunch to serve your family on apps and taps night.
Why These Golden Wings Are A Fam Favorite
- Juicy Meat – Set your grill to 300F to get your meat to temp but won’t dry the wings out. We like to ensure our meat to be done through, but not to the point where it is dried out. Grilling our wings gives them a great char and adds a ton of flavor that is hidden behind a great sauce.

- Saucy Finish – Our kids love this golden sauce on their golden wings. The sweet stickiness of the honey with the hint of spice of the hot sauce makes for a perfect combination. It leaves our kids licking their fingers and having sauce from cheek to cheek.
- Finger Foods – Wings are the classic finger foods. Our kids love to eat the drummies down to the bone, nibbling each and every last morsel of meat. Whether your kids are one bone or two bone wing eaters, you won’t find much meat left on any of these wings after your kids have tried them.
What Ingredients Makes Up These Golden Wings
- Chicken Wings – We love to use Costco Party Wings when we do our wings. The tear off sections make it easy to make as many as you want to and we can tear off part and still keep the rest in the freezer for later.
- Salt & Pepper – This is our go to seasoning for our golden wings. I don’t want to mask the flavor or overpower with too many seasonings so a basic sea salt and fresh cracked pepper is all these wings need.
- Honey – The sweetness of the honey balances out the heat and acidity in the mustard and hot sauce. You can adjust the level of heat that hits you with more or less sweet.

- Mustard – This is the hidden ingredient in this sauce. You get a punch of acid with the tang of the mustard underlying of the dominant sweet of the honey and heat of the hot sauce. They marry well to provide great flavor in these golden wings.
- Hot Sauce – While people think that hot sauce can dominate in wing sauces, the heat in this recipe sneaks into the back and doesn’t hit you until late. On the back of your tongue you get a blast of heat when you are eating your golden wings.
Why Do They Call It Spinning Wings
When wings are cooked, whether you grill, bake, or fry them they are spun around in a bowl with anyone’s favorite sauce. Tossed and spun round and round in a bowl we spin our wings in our favorite heat or sweet laden sauces. We spin them to coat the wings completely and then we serve them saucy and sticky so they are finger licking good.
How Do I Prep My Golden Wings
Preheat The Grill- We like to make our wings on the pellet grill to provide that woodfire flavor. Using the grill allows us to adjust the heat to finish the wings to create a crisp skin and juicy interior finish. Preheat your grill to 300F to create a hot oven like atmosphere to engulf the wing in a bed of heat to finish the wings off after infusing them with the smoke of your favorite pellet.
Season Your Wings – Using salt and pepper, season your wings liberally. Salt brings flavor out of the chicken with the deep flavor from the bones of the drummies and wing sections. The pepper adds flecks of heat, bringing the flavor of an earthy spice that pairs great with the succulent flavor that the salt draws from the meat.

How to Cook Your Golden Wings
Cook or Grill Your Wings – I like to cook my wings on our Austin XL Pit Boss Grill in the summer time on a hot grill. Spread your wings out evenly on a grill grate. This allows the smoke to reach as much surface area of the wings as possible. Cook for 30-35 minutes until your the skin becomes crisp and golden, rotating only once. The beauty of the pellet grill is you get the smoked flavor with finish of an oven.
Spin Your Wings in Sauce – In a mixing bowl add mustard, honey, hot sauce and butter. Add cooked wings and toss to coat the wings entirely. Once you have spun your wings in the sauce mixture, replace them onto the grill grate. Heating the wings on the grill will tighten up the sauce and cook the sugars in the sauce to create a nice sticky glaze on each individual wing.
Serve With Your Favorite Dipping Sauce- Whether you are traditional ranch or blue cheese sauce, serve these wings with a cool dipping sauce and our favorite sides Sweet and Savory Cowboy Baked Beans, Simple and Zesty Mustard Potato Salad: Grandma’s Secret Recipe or Dump and Bake Simple Cheesy Potato Recipe.

Tips and Tricks To Making Golden Wings
Cook Your Golden Wings a Variety of Ways
Summertime is a great time to try your wings on the grill. When the season turns to cool and Fall approaches, bring your wings inside and cook them either in your oven or using your air fryer. Both methods will crisp up your wings in a bed of heat that surrounds your wings and crisps up the skin while cooking that delicious meat to a juicy finish.
Control the Heat and Sweet Of Your Golden Wings
Be in control of how you like your wings. If you want to lessen the heat of your sauce, but still like to have a small kick on the backend of your sauce, add more honey. If you want to kick up your wings a touch, add less honey to let your hot sauce show through. The use of the honey will control the balance of the sweet and heat, without using less or more of the hot sauce.
Create a Crisp Skin With Your Heat
Finish your wings by increasing the heat for the final minutes to create a fried like finish on the skin of the wing. Crisp up your skin by turning your oven up to 450F or turning your grill up to 350F for the final 10 minutes to finish these golden wings. This creates the same as a deep fried wing, with a healthier option.
